    CHURCH-WIDE: INFORMATION

Life at Grandview - HD Title

Please be praying for our membership emphasis this month. Be praying that people who are interested in becoming a part of our family will feel welcomed and ready to join the mission that God has given Grandview.

We have quite a few people joining this Sunday (August 31).

Membership emphasis, though, is about more than asking people to join. We would love for all of our members to consider becoming even more open to new areas of involvement and growth.

We believe God wants to use the church to be a sign of God’s love for the world as as we Gather, Share, and Grow in Christ.

    ASP House

    ASP - Update on House
As many of you already know, Grandview donated $50,000 to ASP to cover the cost to build a house for someone affected by Hurricane Helene in our area. ASP is using that money to build a house for Charles and Rebekah.
Volunteers have been busy building their house and it is getting close to being ready for them to move in! Their church, along with others, have been very generous in helping them get what they will need to furnish their new home. We will reach out to them again soon to see if there is anything else they need.

ASP Work Week - Volunteers Needed
This fall, we will be working with ASP to help build a house for someone in our area who was affected by Hurricane Helene!
Whether you have a lifetime of experience building homes or have no experience and a willing spirit to help, you are welcome to register!
Our work week is October 13-18, working from 8am until 5pm each day. You can sign up here or in our Church Center App for any number of days that you are able to serve that week.
If you have any questions, contact Maci or Katy.

    MISSIONS

Travis and Emily Weeks - Generic

This being a “five week month” for weekends, we completed our sessions with Miles Costello and Canvas in Notthingham, England.  Next week we will begin looking at Roots in Edinburgh, Scotland with our own daughter, Meredith McKinney.

That allows us to offer a sincere welcome to the Weeks family (Travis, Emily, Clare, Charlie and Jude) as they have joined us for a semester.  Travis will be serving as the “Missionary In Residence” at Milligan University.  Whereas we understand they will need to be traveling some weekends for fund-raising for their Missions home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, they will be worshipping with us many weekends.  In fact, they were with us last weekend.

They are living on campus at Milligan.  Many thanks to those who donated furniture and furnishings for their temporary home here.  We will be benefitting from Travis’ religious wisdom/insights, Emily’s counseling expertise and the fun-loving energy of the three children for the entire semester.  When you see them, please welcome them back to Grandview.  They have good memories of their time with Grandview.  Let’s give them some more!

Praise God for keeping them safe during a time of conflict and for returning them to us during this time.  Welcome home Travis, Emily, Clare, Charlie and last but not least, Jude!

Appeal for Financial Aid to Enoch and Lydia Nyador

    High Medical Bills

    unnamed (82)

As we said before, Lydia Nyador was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a severe form of brain cancer. The tumor was in the occipital lobe of the brain (the back part) which is where vision actually takes place. So her vision has been affected, as well as her memory and ability to control her extremities (arms and legs). She had surgery in Pretoria, South Africa, and is now back home. Medical bills were quite high, and though people have helped, they still owe over $20,000, and will have bills for radiation therapy and chemotherapy upcoming.

The Missions Committee has given some from its contingency fund, and we are aware of several individuals in the congregation who have donated. Please, consider supporting this wonderful couple who have done great things for the Kingdom. Donations may be mailed to:
    Ghana Christian Mission
    PO Box 8
    Plainfield, IN 46168

    Thank you for considering.

Learn More About our Missions Ministry Team
Grandview's Missions Ministry Team facilitates on-going relationships between our Grandview family and the missionaries/missions that we support as well as emphasizing the importance of missions in general. We host missionaries, plan events, learn about our mission partners, manage the Vision Fund (see below), oversee the Grandview Missions budget, and pray for God’s work around the world. New team members are welcome. Many opportunities for service are available. Please email Richard Phillips (2025 team leader) for more information about joining the team, to request long-term or short-term support, or to receive a current mailing list of our missionaries so that you can send cards and/or packages to them.

    KIDS' CAMP AND CREW456

    Tippy

This Sunday, our preschoolers will be starting their new unit: Tippy's Mouse House! This unit will focus on teaching our littles that God gives everything we need and shows us how to love. Parents can find discussion questions below:
        Week 1 (8/31)
What are ways God takes care of us?
        Week 2 (9/7)
If you could have one food from heaven, what would it be?
        Week 3 (9/14)
Can you think of a time when God provided for you?
    Week 4 (9/21)
What are some ways we can show love to God every day?
        Week 5 (9/28)
What does loving others like God does look like?

    The Comparison Game

Our Crew456 kids started a new unit this past Sunday: The Comparison Game. This series looks at how we should find our identity and standard in the life of Christ and not in others. Below, parents can find some nifty discussion questions to ask your kids throughout the week for each lesson!
    Week 1:
What good things get in the way of our listening to God?
How can knowing how you best connect with God strengthen your relationship with him?
How can you adjust your schedule this week to focus more on God?
    Week 2:
When do you elevate yourself over others, even if it’s just in your thoughts?
How can we ensure that we aren’t relying on ourselves for righteousness?
What are some specific ways we can put the needs of our family or friends above our own this week?
    Week 3:
How does it make you feel to know that God loves you no matter what and that you can’t earn his grace?
How does it make you feel that God loves even those who don’t love him back?
How can you show others grace and mercy this week, even when you think they don’t deserve it?
    Week 4:
How can you know what your calling is?
What is something that distracts you from spending time with God every day?
What is something you believe God is calling you to do but you haven’t done yet?

    Sunday Morning Worship
We offer age appropriate classes for newborn-6th grade at both of our campuses each Sunday. All classes are held at the same time as our worship services.
At our Buffalo Campus, students in grades 4-6 (a.k.a. Crew456) are encouraged to attend one service and one Sunday School class on Sunday mornings. This helps your children get accustomed to engaging in worship and interacting more with the church body.

Crew456 Canopy - Beginning This Sunday (August 17)
All 4th-6th grade students are encouraged to join us for our small group gathering, called Crew456 Canopy. We meet on Sunday evenings from 5-6:30 at our Buffalo Campus.
During our gatherings, Luke Johnson and Whitney Elliott will lead us in playing games, eating snacks, and exploring and deepening our faith by finding what the Bible has to say on questions you may have regarding God.
If you have any questions about our Crew456 Canopy, please contact Leah Short or Corri Carpenter.

Nights of Service - These are nights we focus on what it means to serve others and we go out into the community to do just that. This is during regular Canopy time 5-6:30 and is available for both campuses.

Two4Two - Two4Two is our intergenerational Wednesday night fellowship that occurs for 10 weeks each fall and spring from 5:30-7:30. Then we move to enrichment classes that are open to both children and adults.

How We Communicate - Our Crew456 team leaders communicate with Crew456 parents via e-mail. Emails are typically sent out for reminders of upcoming events or event changes.
If you are new to Grandview and want to be added to this email list you can contact Buffalo Campus Children’s Minister Leah Short at leah@grandviewchristian.org.

    CANOPIES

    What is a Canopy?
In an amazing natural phenomenon called “canopy shyness,” trees in some forests grow in patterns that allow light to permeate the forest below. The whole forest can be healthy and grow together by keeping space in the canopy. This is the idea behind Canopy at Grandview.

Our Canopies are small groups who come together once a week, every other week, or once a month. Whatever your fancy, there is a Canopy group for you. Let us help you get connected into an existing Canopy or help you start a new one. For more information, contact Katy Woodward.

    Canopy Groups
Here is a list of some of our current Canopy Groups.  If you would like to join a canopy or get more information about our canopies, fill out our Life at Grandview Form.

    Widows Might
All widows are invited to participate in this canopy. They meet once a month usually for an activity, lunch, and fellowship. For more information, or if you need a ride, contact the church office.

They will be finishing up their study on "Bad Girls of the Bible" by Liz Curtis Higgs.

    PRAYING

    joe sutherland

    Remembering Joe Sutherland
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Dr. Joe Sutherland in Nashville, on Tuesday, August 5. Joe and his late wife Sue had been a significant part of Grandview since they retired. When Sue passed away, Joe moved to Nashville to be near family. Joe taught Pastoral Care and Counseling at Emmanuel Christian Seminary. Among the churches that Joe and Sue served were churches in Illinois, Ohio, Florida, and churches in Northern Scotland, just to name a few. He spent over 50 years counseling pastors who were dealing with personal problems.
Prayers for his family are appreciated.

Download from Google Play or Apple App Store. (Links at https://churchcenter.com) Click the Give menu item. You may give your gift as one-time gift, or schedule recurring gifts, using a debit/credit card or directly from your bank account via ACH (e-check). If you want to “split” a single your gift between two or more funds, you will have to give online via the Church Website. Or alternatively, you can give two separate gifts to each fund.

    The Church Website:
Go to https://grandviewchristian.org/ Click the Give menu item. This takes you to the same church center software as in the app but viewed on a webpage. You can give in the same way as the app described above. And here you can split your gift between two or more funds, easily.

Available Funds for Online Electronic Giving:
Grandview Buffalo Campus - For discretional spending for our Buffalo Campus, per budget. Used where needed most.

Grandview Cityview Campus - For discretional spending for our Cityview Campus, per budget. Used where needed most.

Partnership-Fund - Separate Fund for privately and confidentially helping members and others in need.

From time to time there are special funds, such as in memorial of someone from our congregation who has passed away, or for special gifts around the holidays.

If you want to give electronically to a fund not listed above, or give electronically in memory of a someone who is not currently listed please contact the Church Treasurer, Brandon Rogers, for assistance at treasurer@grandviewchristian.org.

Optionally covering Credit Card Processing Fees:
Our credit card processing fees are low & fixed. You can elect to cover those costs when making a gift by checking a checkbox indicating you want to do so. The cost is shown next to the checkbox. This is totally optional. If you cover credit card processing, that extra amount is added to your gift. The net gift amount appears on all receipts & giving statements.

    FREE Electronic ACH (e-check) Giving:
Gifts can be made in church center using your checking or savings account, also known as ACH (or e-check). This costs Grandview nothing! How? The actual processing cost of $0.30 cents per gift is covered by a donor who has pledged to cover those fees for Grandview. That makes the Church Center ACH (e-check) giving free to Grandview and you!

And if you prefer, you can also voluntarily cover those costs when making your gift by checking the box indicating you want to do so. The cost (30 cents) is shown next to the checkbox. This is totally optional.

    Cash and Checks:
Cash and checks are always welcome in the offering plate/giving boxes. You can split your gift between funds with a memo field note, or with separate checks, whichever you personally prefer. All checks should be payable to “Grandview Christian Church,” not payable to any fund or any campus.

Regardless of how you give a donation receipt is automatically emailed to you when your gift is processed (even when you give via cash or checks.) You can toggle that receipt feature on and off in the app (or online). If you need any assistance with any of the above, please contact the Treasurer.

Church Center is for “Giving”. Registrations are for “Buying”:
All Church Center giving is for tax deductible gifts only. You do not receive anything tangible. However, you can still e-pay for any “non-tax-deductible” payments for events or programing, such as Two4Two, Youth trips, or other special events as part of the registration process for those events.

Bank Bill Pay or Mailing a check to the Church:
You are always welcome to mail a check to the Church. Or have you bank draft a check to mail to the church (Bill Pay). Please keep in mind that the lead time for processing your gift is longer when mailing a check.

    Mail all checks to:
    Grandview Christian Church

Please do not mail cash anywhere! And please do not mail checks to the Treasurer’s home address or any other staff member’s home address.
