The Spirit Acts
This Fall we will dig into the book of Acts with special attention to the movement of the Holy Spirit. Our understanding of the Holy Spirit within the Christian Church can feel mysterious, abstract, and mystical, but the third member of the Trinity has been active and present from the dawn of Creation and is a vital part of the Church’s history, growth, and continued kingdom expansion. If actions speak louder than words, let’s pay attention to how the Spirit acts and moves in the life of the early Church so we can converse and work to better understand how the Spirit continues to move and work within us as individual followers of Jesus and as a collective body who the Spirit moved and works through as the Church.

As we launch into our study this semester, we hope you will read through the entire book of Acts. In fact, we hope you’ll do it twice because we think you will learn and experience the movement of the Spirit more deeply if you read through the text on your own as an individual and also as a group. Our study this semester will progress through the book of Acts at the pace of 2-4 chapters a week, and we think you will get the most out of this study if you read the chapters you’ll discuss ahead of time, and also if your group will read the text aloud together during your meetup time. Something special happens when Scripture is read aloud in a group, so we’d encourage you to prioritize that in your time together each week.
This semester you’ll have access to a weekly intro video to help frame the conversation with your group in addition to a weekly canopy leader guide available for download below. You can also access an extra resource document with great Bible study tools, commentaries, videos, maps, podcasts, and more. If this is your first in depth study through the book of Acts, there are so many great resources to help you better understand this amazing book and see the Spirit at work. Feel free to use these resources as you lead and also make them available to those in your group.
